Circuit House & Inspection Bungalow, Miao In Arunachal Pradesh, where tourist facilities are minimal, visitors often have to stay in government-run circuit houses and inspection bungalows (IB). These are meant for the use of visiting and touring government officials on duty. However, they are often vacant, and can be used by the general public if not in official use. Advance bookings can be obtained by applying to: The Additional Deputy Commissioner Miao – 792 122 Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh Phone: +91-3807-222245 Miao has a Circuit House with 6 rooms, although 2 are reserved for VIPs and government officials. The Public Works Department (PWD) has an Inspection Bungalow in Miao where one can stay if needed. However this is in a dilapidated condition and is also usually fully occupied. Miao also had a functional private tourist lodge earlier. However, that has for many years now been occupied at various times by paramilitary forces (CRPF/ITBP) staff. There is also one dilapidated ‘hotel’ in the main market at Miao. Miao has a post office, bank (State Bank of India, no ATM at present), police station, many private phone booths (for both national and international calls), schools and shops for essential supplies including provisions. High-quality batteries are not available in Miao, the closest place where they can be obtained being Margherita, although Tinsukia and Dibrugarh are safer bets. There is internet access at the government-run Community Information Centre (CIC) during office hours on weekdays for low charges (roughly Rs. 25 per hour). There are several small to medium sized eateries in Miao, serving a variety of foods, including a Tibetan restaurant serving momos (on advance request) and noodles. Other establishments serve Bengali food, and there are several sweetshops which offer savouries and sweets. Charges are reasonable. The nearest ATM (State Bank of India) is at Margherita, which is open only during working hours and is often not in working condition. The nearest petrol pump is at Kharsang, although cans of both petrol and diesel are sold in several shops in Maio at black-market prices. Miao does have some basic vehicle repair centres, but tyre punctures cannot be repaired in Miao. 3.
